APALACHIN, N.Y. -- Hydrofracking was the hot issue at a town hall meeting with Congressman Tom Reed in Apalachin.

Concerned residents lashed out at the Congressman, saying why they feel hydrofracking is harmful to the community. They cited pollution, tainted water, and health issues as reasons why the government should not bring fracking to the area.

Congressman Tom Reed says he understands their fears, and supports safe and responsible drilling. He says shale gas will strengthen the economy.

Reed says, "This is an opportunity for jobs. It will put people back to work. Not only with the energy, getting it out of the ground, but putting people back to work, in regards to manufacturing. It represents our low cost power supply manufacturers. Those are generational type jobs."

Congressman Reed also held a town hall meeting in Horseheads on Saturday.
