ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Last week, the Syracuse Fire Department unveiled their home makeover for former deputy chief Dave Johnson and his family. And on Saturday, it was time to give thanks to all of the people who pitched in!
The Marcellus Fire Department hosted a volunteer appreciation event to recognize groups like McClurg Construction and everyone else who helped remodel the Tully home. 152 businesses in all gave their time, money and man hours to complete a top to bottom makeover of the house where the Johnson's have raised 29 children. Everyone involved said it's a testament to the spirit of the community.
Scott McClurg of McClurg Construction said, “It just says a lot about the Central New York Community. How great it is, how much people are willing to do these kind of things. It just reinvigorates your love of mankind I guess."
Diana and Dave Johnson, the home makeover recipients said, “It's been a great example for the kids to watch. Everybody helps and look at what can be done. It's been really neat."
The Johnson's said they're still in the process of unpacking, but it won't be long before they're completely moved back in.
