FORT DRUM, N.Y. - -Nearly three hundred troops were welcomed home at Fort Drum Saturday afternoon after a year-long deployment.
The 3rd Brigade Combat Team, known as the Spartan Brigade spent the last year in Afghanistan supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. These men and women worked alongside Afghan National Security Forces in Kandahar province.
Families greeted their heroes at a welcome home ceremony, happy for their safe return.
3rd BCT leaders say they're extremely proud of the mission they've just completed.
Lt. Col. Chris Taylor of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team said, "It was very successful. Again, the soldiers soldiered hard and they fought hard and they really accomplished quite a bit. There's governance down there and there's security down there where there never was before, and so they certainly have a lot to be proud of."
About six hundred soldiers are still waiting to return home from Afghanistan. The entire Bridgade should be back on Fort Drum before the end of the month.
