NORTH COUNTRY -- Now that he's had some time to let it sink in, North Country GOP Congressional candidate Matt Doheny says he's excited about the possibility of Paul Ryan becoming Vice President.

Matt Doheny, the Republican challenging Democrat Bill Owens for New York's newly-created 21st Congressional District, says Mitt Romney's pick of Paul Ryan has most of the Republican party energized, even if he doesn't completely agree with his ideas.

The focus of the Ryan nomination, and something that will play a big role in Congressional races this fall, is Ryan's federal budget plan, dealing with debt, tax rates, social security, Medicare and more. Doheny says the plan as a whole wouldn't work for him as it takes too long to balance the budget, but he adds that he's very happy Ryan stepped up to offer a solution, instead of just sitting on the sidelines.

"Part of it is making sure politicians have the courage. People who've been in Congress 20 to 30 years and aren't used to actually making tough choices, need to move on and be part of the solution, otherwise they'll be replaced and I think we've seen that," said Doheny.

Democratic Congressman Bill Owens says the Ryan plan as a whole makes zero sense. He says the plan cuts veteran programs, school funding and more, yet lowers taxes on the wealthy, doing nothing for the middle class.
