WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- A new policy will be voted on next Tuesday, changing the way the City of Watertown permits alcohol sales on city property.
In a work session Monday, council members reviewed the draft of the new policy. It outlines how organizations will now need to apply for permits or licenses and how profits from those sales may be shared.
Several local organizations such as the Disabled Persons Action Organization, the County Fair, and the Watertown Wizard's Baseball team will all be affected by the new policy if they continue to sell alcohol at local events. The new Wizard's owner says they do plan to continue selling alcohol at games this summer and are watching this issue closely.
Watertown Wizards Owner Todd Kirkey said, "We weren't surprised by much, we were excited to see that they have moved forward and that the work that they put in has certainly paid off. And it appears next Tuesday night we'll have some more information which is good news so we can move forward."
Council members say they're glad they've found a way to tighten this policy after months of debate over the issue.
