NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. -- The Chobani yogurt company has a new addition in the form of a store in New York City.
The Chobani Yogurt Bar held it' official grand opening Wednesday morning.
Chobani was founded in 2005 with just five employees. The company is now more than 1,200 strong, headquartered and manufactured out of New Berlin in Chenango County.
Lieutenant Governor Robert Duffy was among those on hand Wednesday, impressed with the growth and commitment of the company to Upstate New York.
"We have like 611,000 dairy cows, 3.6 million pounds of milk delivered every morning to a New Berlin factory. So not only is he delivering a great healthy product, he is putting people to work. He is revitalizing the economy, especially the Upstate agricultural economy. And he has just invested so much, putting people to work. There's infrastructure. I think his employees span 17 counties," Duffy said.
"We wanted to make the best product that we know how to make. We wanted to make it the best way that we knew how to make it and we wanted to keep it simple. And the most important thing is that we wanted to make this yogurt available for everybody," Chobani founder Hamdi Ulukaya said.
The new restaurant is located in Manhattan's Soho neighborhood on Prince Street.
