The Great New York State Fair gets underway just two weeks away from today. This marks the 166th year for the fair, which will run from August 23rd through September 3rd. Our Brad Vivacqua has more on this year's fair.
ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- On top of good entertainment schedule, it's likely that people who visit the State Fair this year will be pretty happy with what they find. Officials say with two weeks away, it's always a good idea to plan what day you'll be coming and take advantage of some of the ways you can save yourself money.
Fair director Dan O' Hara says you should visit the State Fair’s website to find coupons, deals, and specials. Advance sale tickets are available for $6 before August 23rd, that's $4 less than regular admission.
Some new attractions include Hot Dog Pig Races, a BMX Stunt Show, and an Agriculture Extravaganza. The fair committee has been working hard this summer to improve the grounds and that includes more seating and some enhanced agriculture signage.
"One of the real highlights this year is going to be the enhanced signage throughout the fairgrounds, but particularly with the agricultural buildings, but inside we've got a lot of fun facts that really educate the fairgoer that agriculture plays in New York's economy," said Dan O' Hara, NYS Fair director.
In addition to agriculture, several acts are lined up on the Chevy Court schedule, free with admission. You can see Karmin on August 23rd, the J. Geils Band on the 25th, Three Dog Night on the 27th, and Eddie Money on September 1st. Those are just a few of the Chevy Court acts.
In the Grandstand, some of the performers will include Keith Urban on August 24th, Larry the Cable Guy on the 26th, Jason Aldean on the 31st, and a Monster Jam Mix Up on September 2nd. Tickets are still available for those shows and can be purchased online.
