UTICA, N.Y. - With the Summer Olympics now over the international sporting focus turns toward the 2014 Winter Games, and Remsen's Erin Hamlin says she's already counting down to them.
Hamlin, a two-time Olympian and five-time national champion in singles luge, was the keynote speaker at the Utica College Athletics Spirit Luncheon on Friday, an event that benefitted the university's women's teams. She spoke about the impact of Title IX with this being the 30th anniversary of the groundbreaking female athletics legislation and the London Olympics provided a perfect example as USA women won more gold medals than their male counterparts.
Hamlin hopes to be part of a similar success story in Sochi, Russia, and success will be expected of her as she is a 13-year veteran of the sport with several international medals including a gold. But before she can worry about the Olympics she has to focus on the upcoming World Cup season which begins in November.
