WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- This week, the Mercy Care Center in Watertown was supposed to be in the process of closing for good. But the nursing home will remain open for a few more weeks as it is still waiting for permission from the state to shut down.
The news came from a letter sent by Mercy Administrator Dennis Casey to Watertown Mayor Jeff Graham.
Casey says he expects the closure process to now start March 1st and last until around the 14th. At that time, all 240 employees will be laid off and the residents will be relocated.
It's possible that the staff and residents could end up at the new Samaritan Medical Center facility that's set to open in early March.
