LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- President Obama widens his lead over Mitt Romney among New York voters.

According to a new poll from the Siena Research Institute, 59 percent of those polled said they would vote for the president versus 35 percent for Romney.

The number of voters for President Obama went up two points from last month, while Romney's percentage went down two.

Voters were also asked who they think would do a better job at keeping the country safe from terrorism, fighting for middle class families, tackling health care, and improving the economy. A majority went with the president in every category polled.

However, the survey did find independent voters favored Romney when it came to jobs, the deficit, and making government more effective.
