The 3-year-old filly Regal Citizen became the first racing fatality of the season Thursday when she broke down and was euthanized after the seventh race.
Regal Citizen completed the one-mile maiden race on the inner turf course and was galloping out when jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. realized that she was injured and jumped off.
