The Spa Spot: Rain knocks four races off turf
Two waves of heavy rain reached Saratoga Race Course early this afternoon and forced NYRA to move four turf races to the main track.
Rain fell before the first race, which was run on the turf, but subsided before the race was run. Another deluge arrived just before the start of the second race, also run on the turf. It was so dark and it was raining so hard that it was difficult to see the horses on the course. One of the horses was pulled up on the backstretch and banned off. His status has not been announced.
Following the conclusion of the second race, track announcer Tom Durkin notified the crowd that races 3, 5, 6 and 7 would be moved to the main track.
