The Spa Spot: Davis family returns to track
Dylan Davis, son of former jockey Robbie Davis, will make his debut as an apprentice jockey today at Saratoga Race Course. One of the horses he is scheduled to ride is Sandyinthesun, who is trained and co-owned by his father.
A 2011 graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, Dylan Davis, followed his sister Jackie - now a jockey at Suffolk Downs - to the North American Racing Academy in Lexington, Ky. He stayed at the school run by Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron for a year, returned to his parents' home outside of Saratoga Springs and has been sharpening his skills as an exercise rider at Saratoga.
In addition to the mount for his father, Davis is named to ride four horses for trainer Wesley Ward: Kansas in the first, Black Rhino in the fourth, Fierce in the fifth and Richiesbronxbomber in the seventh. Kansas and Richiesbronxbomber are on the also-eligible lists for their races.
Jackie Davis rode Sandyinthesun for her father at Saratoga last summer and was aboard the gelding when he broke his maiden at Aqueduct on December 3. Sandyinthesun drew post eight in the second race today.
