My Jopia held off Manero at the wire to win the Statue of Liberty Division of the New York Stallion Series by a nose Thursday afternoon.

The Utopia filly out of My Jodi Lynn was foaled at nearby McMahon Thoroughbreds of Saratoga. She pressed the pace set by Take it Inside, moved to the lead entering the stretch and managed to withstand the late rally by Manero. My Jopia completed the mile on the inner turf course under jockey Ramon Dominguez in 1:36.88 and paid $8.10.

Morning line favorite I Bet Toni Knows was scratched at the gate.

My Jopia was making her first start since winning a first-level allowance race on April 29.

“She needed time for little problems. Nothing major, and we started pointing her to this race," trainer Dominick Schettino said. Ramon said the ground got a little soft, and she got tired at the end. [The mile distance] didn’t bother me. The [dam] only ran a couple times but she went long, and the grandmother went long."

Dominguez said that the race played out beautifully for him and his filly.

“I had a really great trip," he said. "I didn’t know how much speed was going to develop; on paper there was potential for a lot of speed. I just let her come away from there and she was comfortable laying second. Turning for home there was a little give in the ground from the rain. It seemed that she was getting tired, but she kept on fighting to the end.”
