WORLDWIDE – There is new information coming out regarding letters exchanged between British and Scottish officials prior to the release of Pan Am bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi.
The letters, published Tuesday in England, show Britain's Middle East minister and other officials advising Scotland's government that there were no legal obstacles to returning al-Megrahi to his native Libya.
Al-Megrahi was released last month on humanitarian grounds because he has terminal prostate cancer.
In a letter sent on August 3rd, Britain's Middle East minister told the Scottish Justice Secretary, who released al-Megrahi, that Britain didn't believe releasing him would breach promises made to Washington or the United Nations.
Both Britain and Scotland insist there was no deal made with Libya.
