News 10 Now had hoped to bring you a debate between the three candidates in the special election for the 23rd Congressional District. Unfortunately, two of those candidates declined to participate in our debate, so we've been forced to cancel it. Democrat Bill Owens never committed to attending. Conservative Doug Hoffman had agreed to take part, even in a two-way debate. But his campaign notified us Sunday night that they had changed their mind, saying they do not feel it's advantageous to debate without Owens present. We feel debates and candidate forums are very important to help you, the voters, form your opinions of the people running, and to make informed choices on Election Day. So we are very disappointed we can’t bring you a debate as we had hoped. The only candidate who showed up at our studio on Monday was Republican Dede Scozzafava. So, in fairness to her campaign, News 10 Now offered her this 20-minute one-on-one interview with our Bill Carey.
