WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Santa Claus made his way over to Watertown for the Best Western's "Day Out With Santa." The line was out the door to see the big man. Kids also got free presents, face painting and pony rides at the event, all made possible by donations from the community.

Organizers say the first "Day Out With Santa" in Watertown was a huge hit with thousands of people attending. They say it's a great way to spread the holiday spirit.

"The economy being the way it is, people aren't going out as much. They aren't able to spend as much. We thought this was a great event, a great way to make sure every kid gets a toy. Every kid gets picture with Santa, to sit on Santa's lap and say what they want for Christmas," said Jeri McInnis, Watertown Best Western General Manager.

Organizers say they've been doing events like this across the state for several years, and they plan to make this an annual event in Watertown.
