CANTON, N.Y. -- It's a new series at the Canton Free Library where kids have a chance to gain confidence while reading out loud to a gentle listener, a dog.

The dogs visit the library twice a month. It's free to the public and ranges from beginner to advanced readers.

Canton Free Library Youth Services Coordinator Valerie White said, "I think sometimes kids may be a little anxious or unsure of their reading ability, even if they are fantastic readers, speaking it out loud and actually reading the book may make them a little nervous. Perhaps they've received some criticism or teasing from piers and the dog is not at all judgmental."

The next session will be held on the afternoon of January 28th.
