JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- A formerly contaminated site in Jefferson County is clean and safe for the public. DEC officials say now that their initial cleanup is finished, the Frink America site in Clayton won't need any more work.
They have already removed the asbestos-laden buildings, the petroleum storage tanks and contaminated soil. Town representatives and the DEC are pleased with the good cleanup results.
"It's a very ideal location for development, which will help the community and it was important to get it cleaned so it could be used," said William Jesmore, Project Manager.
"We're looking at marketing the property and getting it back on the tax role. So we'll have dual usage: public access as well as being able to put it back on the tax role," said Justin Taylor, Clayton Town Supervisor.
