CARTHAGE, N.Y. -- A two-year-old girl was rescued from a burning home. The hero was a cable television installer contracted by Time Warner Cable.
The fire broke out at a home on North Washington Street in Carthage around noon Tuesday. Fire officials say the woman watching the child came running out of the house saying she couldn't get her. Wells Communication employee Jared McNitt was in the area and grabbed his ladder, breaking a window to the second story to bring the child down to safety.
"It's nice to have citizens who aren't afraid to help out when they can. So we take our hats off to him," said Carthage Fire Chief Norm Barkley.
There was minimal damage to the home.
