HORSEHEADS, N.Y. -- Maintenance staff in the Horseheads School District are working to determine whether the Middle-Intermediate School complex can reopen Tuesday.
A mouse caused a small fire in the complex's distributor panel this morning, causing the school to close. Staff and a few students who were in the building at the time were evacuated.
The fire was put out and the power was turned off. Luckily, there was only minor damage to the distributor panel.
Buses on their way to the school were re-routed to evacuation sites at other schools in the district. Once the district decided to close the school, the students were bussed home.
