This weekend marks the 30th anniversary of the 1980 winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid. As our Sarah Hagen tells us, one North Country filmmaker is drawing extra attention to this unique time in our state's history and making sure it is never forgotten.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- After hosting both the 1932 and 1980 Olympic Games, Lake Placid made a name for itself.
"Small Town, Big Dreams" Filmmaker Scott Carroll said, "Placid, in Northern New York, is a foundational structure, it is one of the corner stones of the Olympics."
This year, the 30th anniversary of the 1980 Olympics coincides with the start of the 2010 Vancouver games and local filmmaker Scott Carroll has made a point to remember this tiny community's major impact on the Olympic world.
"There are other cities in the world that have held the Olympics twice and then between games it kind of gets lost. What makes Placid unique is that the legacy continues year to year, decade to decade," said Carroll.
Carroll talks about the legacy that has lived on after the Olympics have left Lake Placid, a notion that is well supported this year, as a record number of local athletes will go on to compete in the 2010 Vancouver games.
ORDA Spokesperson Jon Lundin said, "There are 216 athletes representing the United States in Vancouver beginning February 12th. Think about that. Twelve of them are from the Lake Placid area."
Although the Olympic Games have come and gone from Lake Placid...
"Well, you will always have the spirit and this community has some of the most incredible venues," said Lisa Weibrecht the mother of Olympian Andrew Weibrecht.
But the big question remains ...
"Can Placid hold and host the new games and contain it within the community? No, probably not," said Carroll.
Carroll said, since the games have grown in size, it would most likely take a regional effort to bring them back.
"Small Town, Big Dreams: Lake Placid's Olympic Story" will be airing on over 250 PBS stations across the U.S. this month. And as part of the 30th anniversary celebration, a public viewing is also being held this Sunday in Lake Placid.
