POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Just a few days shy of Valentine's Day, supporters are "standing on the side of love." The nationwide campaign is promoting full equality for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals.
The campaign is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association. It calls supporters to petition, network and host an event.
SUNY Potsdam held a rally Friday. It is just one of many that will be held across the country this weekend.
Potsdam Rally Co-Organizer Austin Kenyon said, "This weekend is a symbol, it's done purposefully, to reimagine Valentine's Day as a holiday. To reimagine it not as just a holiday of candy and Hallmark cards. But as a day of love and acceptance for everyone."
State Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava said, "I look forward to the time that we are all here to talk about, the issues and engage in whether it be healthcare or jobs and economy and not talk about issues of equality anymore. To me, it's a no-brainer."
Scozzafava has been openly criticized for supporting same-sex marriage, an issue that was front and center during her run for the 23rd Congressional seat.
Scozzafava said Friday she has no interest in running for the upcoming 2010 Congressional race.
