LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The last time the United States won a gold medal in Olympic bobsledding was 1948. But the U.S. men's team changed that last week as they took home gold in the four-man event.
Along with some great skill, the men may have a Southern Tier native to thank for their victory.
Former NASCAR driver, and Chemung native Geoff Bodine started a project 18 years ago known as the "Bo-Dyn Bobsled Project."
Since then, all of the bobsleds used by the U.S. Olympians have been designed by Bodine's team in Lake Placid using NASCAR technology.
We had a chance to speak with Geoff's cousin about the victory.
"I think it's great that Geoff has done that and it's great for the whole country. It shows a lot of pride that he has in what he's done," said Eric Bodine.
The United States women's team also captured a bronze medal in a "Bo-Dyn" sled.
