HARRISON, N.Y. -- You can see the damage on the hood of this Toyota Prius when the crash happened.

Dispatcher: "Harrison Police 911 emergency"

Caller: "Calling to report a Toyota Prius just smashed into a wall across from the Purchase Estates."

That 911 call is from a witness who saw a Toyota Prius smash into a wall in Westchester County. Harrison Police say the driver of the 2005 Prius, one of the models among the millions of cars recalled by the company, was driving down a driveway Tuesday morning when police say the driver says her Prius just took off.

“She reported to us as she was leaving the driveway, the car accelerated and she was unable to stop the car when she depressed the brake,” said Anthony Marraccini, Harrison Police Captain.

Police say the car crossed two lanes of traffic and that it was traveling at decent speed when it crashed. The car's airbags came out from the impact. Its hood is pushed in, its lights are broken and at the scene, rocks from the wall are pushed over. Parts from the car are scattered everywhere. Police say they do not believe the floor mats or a sticky gas pedal are to blame.

“The floor mats had been serviced by Toyota previously and were secured by the factory hook and by additional means by a plastic tie,” said Marraccini.

The driver of the vehicle gave no indication that the gas pedal actually stuck.

Toyota did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Marracinni says Toyota has requested the car but right now Harrison Police will hold onto it until its investigation is complete.

Marracinni says federal investigators have contacted Harrison Police about the accident, but Marraccinni says that the woman was on her way to a local Toyota dealer to have the car looked over.

“I don't know if it is ironic or just poor timing,” said Marraccini.

Now with all this damage you'd expect the woman's injuries to be more substantial. The driver is resting at home with a leg injury.
