SACKETS HARBOR, N.Y. -- It's a tough budget year for everyone, especially for the Sackets Harbor School District, which faces a $388,000 shortfall because of state aid cuts.
Right now, school officials are proposing to make up some of that money by cutting some full time positions down to part time jobs. They say they're looking at all the options, but parents, teachers and students are worried about what the cuts will mean.
"That's their livelihood at stake and because they're on part time, they may look for another job. And we stand at risk of losing all five of them permanently," said 11th grader Ian Kinnie.
"When you're looking at figures in the half a million dollar range, you can no longer cut pencils and field trips. You really have to look at big items like staffing and programs," said Superintendent Frederick Hall.
The district will have a final budget out to the public by April 6th.
