CHAUMONT, N.Y. -- These ladies are packing heat for the first time in their lives.

Brantingham resident Ashley Teal said, "Probably one of the best things I've ever done."

It's called Babes with Bullets, women teaching other women everything about firearms.

Babes with Bullets camp instructor Deb Ferns said, "All safety, safety, safety, and then we start with the basics of grip, stance, sight, picture and most importantly trigger control because nothing goes bang unless somebody does something with the trigger."

With world champion shooters teaching these ladies, they learn the proper technique right from the beginning and instructors say they're some of the best students you could ask for.

Babes with Bullets head instructor Kay Miculek said, "Fun, they come with such enthusiasm and they're very trainable because they're open to anything."

Ferns said, "When you think about the millions and millions of firearms that are in the United States, just being ignorant of them isn't enough. You have to be educated."

After this three day camp, these women walk away with a great deal of knowledge and understanding of a firearm, but they also walk away with a great deal of confidence in themselves.

Ferns said, "What they walk away with is a new life skill, and a whole new empowerment."

Student Ashley Teal came to camp nervous and almost backed out. Now she's looking forward to showing her skills off to her husband.

Teal said, "I'm going to be teaching him some things I think."

Otis Technology training administrator Krista Bartlett said, "To know I am controlling that firearm and it's not controlling me anymore is amazing."

Giving many of these ladies confidence for life.

Teal said, "It makes you feel like, what else can you do. You know, what else that you're afraid of can you just do? There's a lot more things I feel like I'm going to conquer after this."

The camp is sponsored locally by Otis Technology and many of their employees use this event as a work training program.
