ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira City Council rejected the bids for a new Grove Park Pavilion.
The previous pavilion in the park burnt down in March of 2010 and the city was hoping to begin construction on a new one this fall. The city budgeted about $225,000 for the project, but most of the bids came in at twice that amount.
Now the plan is to re-open the bidding process and hope for some better results.
"We will work without design engineers to clarify our specification and do what we can to make sure that those who are bidding know the scope and scale of this project and we will put it out to bid once again and hopefully see bids that are more in line with the amount of money we have to spend," said Elmira Mayor John Tonello.
If all goes according to plan, the city should have a bid accepted sometime later this fall and begin construction on the project next year.
