JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- Ice cream was the order of the day at Jefferson Community College as Jerry Greenfield, co-founder of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream, made an appearance for Leadership Day at the school.

Speaking to a packed house in the Sturtz Auditorium, Greenfield explained about the success and values of his $300 million ice cream empire based in Vermont. Ben & Jerry's has used an unconventional approach by using social responsibility and creative management strengths rather than weaknesses.

Afterward, Greenfield signed copies of their book "Ben & Jerry's Double-Dip: Lead with Your Values and Make Money" which seems all the more relevant in light of the Occupy Wall Street movement, which Greenfield has visited in NYC.

"Ben's and my experience is that you can have a business based on values and lead by values and still be very successful financially, which is counter to the conventional wisdom but the more giving and caring Ben and Jerry's is, the more successful it is," said Greenfield.

Of course, a visit wouldn't be complete without Ben & Jerry's ice cream cups, bars and sandwiches, all handed out after lunch to JCC students in the college gym.
