WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Just days ago, kids were getting candy. But Wednesday, third graders in Watertown received a special gift from the city's Elks Club.

The civic organization handed out dictionaries in their annual give-away. Volunteers visited classes at Watertown’s Ohio Street School to distribute the special printing made just for the Elks Club.

The dictionaries contain information making them a combination encyclopedia and dictionary.

“It’s real enjoyable to see the smiles on the kid’s face. The best part is to see the notes that they send us afterward thanking us for the dictionaries and telling us what they like about the dictionary program,” said Tim Kelly.

The Elks will be visiting more schools throughout the county through the rest of the week.
