FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- It's one of those special ceremonies held each year on Fort Drum: Honoring veterans.
Soldiers from every Fort Drum brigade joined post leaders and some North Country leaders to celebrate everyone who's ever served the military. There was a wreath laying, three rifle volleys, the playing of taps and a moment of silence.
Guest speakers talked about the history of "Armistice Day" and how it became Veterans Day and what it means to wear the uniform.
"They're all heroes to me. I'm humbled to have been privileged to serve with and know so many incredible men and women. Truly the strength of our nation," said Col. Mike Plummer, Retired, 10th Mountain Association President.
Fort Drum hosts the ceremony a day before Veterans Day so it can give soldiers the day off to reflect and spend time with family.
