WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- A new high-tech feed mill is in operation at the former Blue Seal facility in Watertown.
International firm Afgritech spent $5 million to upgrade the plant and held a ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday morning to officially open the facility. The high tech mill will employ ten people and will manufacture aminomax, which is a dairy cattle feed component in the U.S.
The company has plants in the UK, South Africa and Argentina and officials feel that Watertown is the perfect place to open their first U.S. operation.
"It's the third largest dairy sector in the United States and we're within a 200 mile radius of about 600,000 dairy cows, so it was a perfect fit for us and then we found that there's a good employee base," Afgritech CEO Dick Wark said.
Afrgitech plans to open two more mills in the United States.
