AFGHANISTAN -- A Fort Drum soldier has died in Afghanistan. Private Jack Diener, 20, died Monday after his unit was attacked in Kandahar Province.

Diener was from Michigan and a member of the 10th Mountain's 3rd Brigade Combat Team. He deployed to Afghanistan back in September.

Diener was a decorated soldier, having received the Purple Heart and the National Defense Service Medal.
