FORT DRUM, N.Y. – Pre-trail statements were adjourned until December in the murder trial of a Fort Drum soldier.

Jeffrey Sliker, a veteran of Afghanistan, has been charged with killing a four-month-old baby that he and his wife were going to adopt.

Police found the child dead at Sliker's home on West Lynde Street back in March after his wife alerted authorities. Police say Sliker repeatedly hit the baby's head against a hard surface.

Sliker and his wife had been looking after the baby since birth under a court-approved adoption.

He is charged with second degree murder.
