ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man was killed while hunting in St. Lawrence County. It happened just before 5 p.m. Sunday off of Fordham Hill Road in the Town of Russell.

Deputies say Paul Hatch, 49, and Tyler Soper, 20, were hunting when Soper accidentally mistook Hatch for a deer and shot him once in the chest.

Hatch was taken to Canton Potsdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The accident is still under investigation.
