LEWIS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The snow machines are cranking out the white stuff at Snowridge Ski Resort in Lewis County as they try to get the slopes ready for opening day this Friday.

Snowridge actually never used man-made snow until the mid-90s, but times have changed and they're glad to have that resource this year.

“Man-made snow is so much denser and you get so many more miles out of it than natural snow. If you get a nice blend, you get a really good hill with a nice blend of man-made and natural, it’s bullet-proof. You don’t lose it with rain and it stays consistent,” said Snowridge manager Michael Sabatini.

Snowridge hopes to have two trails open by Friday. Other ski areas in the North Country are also opening. Dry Hill Ski Area in Watertown opened Tuesday and Titus Mountain in Malone is opening Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
