ANTWERP, N.Y. -- Investigators are looking into what sparked a fire at the home of an assistant fire chief in Jefferson County.

Crews from seven different departments were called to Fulton Street in the village of Antwerp around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

But by the time anyone arrived, the house was already fully engulfed and flames were working their way up to the attic.

Firefighters spent several hours trying to put out hot spots, but they say manpower was an issue because of the holiday.

"I believe New Years Eve had something to do with the manpower. This time of night most people are gone with their family and friends and that's why we're calling extra departments in," said Jefferson County Deputy Fire Coordinator George Turner.

No one was hurt in the fire.
