ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. -- The fate of the Bonnie Castle Recreation Center is up in the air. The Alexandria Bay complex was saved temporarily just this past week when the 1000 Islands Privateers hockey team signed a lease with the owners of the complex.

The hockey team, which rents the ice complex, was given three days notice to either sign a 69 day lease or the facility would close. The Privateers say they are committed to keeping the semi-pro hockey team in the area, but are exploring other options for the team for the 2012-2013 season.

1000 Islands Privateers General Manager and Head Coach Marc LaFebvre said, "I think we're looking at our other options. Clayton is a viable option. They'll have to upgrade the arena there, but I know we've spoken to people in Clayton and they're more than welcome to have us there."

Many other community groups also benefit from the Privateers signing this lease. Several youth and local hockey teams are also using the Bonnie Castle Recreation Center this year.
