ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Jury selection started Monday in the trial of the man accused of fatally shooting Sheriff's Deputy Kurt Wyman last June.
Christian Patterson is charged with aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and second degree harassment in the death of Deputy Wyman. Patterson is accused of shooting 24-year-old Wyman after a stand-off at the defendant's Knoxboro home that lasted several hours.
Judge Barry Donalty said before selection began that potential jurors would be carefully questioned as to whether they had read or posted on any of the social media sites regarding the case. They'll also be asked if heavy media coverage had already caused them to make up their minds prematurely about Patterson's guilt or innocence.
