ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A standoff ended peacefully in Oneida County as police took a suspect into custody about eight hours after he barricaded himself inside his home.

Law enforcement officials say it began around 1 p.m. Friday at the Pond Hill Estates apartments in Taberg.

Deputies tried to serve Daniel Bragg, 41, with warrants for menacing and criminal possession of a weapon stemming from a domestic incident the night before. That's when Bragg locked himself in his apartment and refused to respond to police.

Officers say they learned Bragg was in possession of high-powered rifles and after attempts to communicate failed, officers took action.

"A decision was made to put gas into the residence, with no results. Then we put troopers into the residence, and they found the subject in the basement. He was taken into custody without incident," said New York State Police Lieutenant Philip Rougeux.

It is unknown if Bragg is expected to face additional charges because of the standoff.
