JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- One person is dead after a five car crash in Jefferson County.

According to State Police in Watertown, a driver crossed over into the northbound lane of Route 11 in the Town of Philadelphia shortly before 5 p.m. Monday. The vehicle caused a chain reaction accident between four other vehicles, including a tractor trailer.

Jae Molner, 40, of Adams Center was killed in the crash. Three other people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for several hours as crews reconstructed the crash.

Officials say Route 11 has seen a number of serious accidents.

"It is a heavily traveled road at 55 miles per hour, isn’t the slowest speed. It has potential for things to happen. Unfortunately today, it ended up in tragedy," said New York State Police Investigator Michael J. Marvin.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but officials say charges are possible.
