ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- There was a last-minute plea deal in a high-profile case in Syracuse. Minutes before jury selection was set to begin in the trial of Nicole DeJaynes, 30, she pleaded guilty to manslaughter for the January 2011 death of her newborn daughter.

A man supposedly looking for wood found the baby wrapped in a blanket in a dumpster behind the Pearl Street Apartments in Liverpool.

Police in the village adopted the baby girl, so to speak, and named her Isabella Marie.

Prosecutors say DeJaynes claimed she did not hurt the baby intentionally but rather thought she was stillborn.

"It would have been a relatively short trial with the main litigated issue being a battle of the experts. We always thought manslaughter was the appropriate plea and today she finally admitted that, admitted her behavior was more reckless," said Rick Trunfio, First Chief Assistant District Attorney.

She will receive 13 years in prison when she's sentenced on July 30th.
