MARCY, N.Y. -- Folks in Oneida County got an up-close look at two UH 60 Black Hawk helicopters when they landed in Marcy Thursday afternoon. They're part of an air ambulance unit out of Rochester that is taking part in a joint training exercise with the Army's 401st Battalion Alpha Company and the Maynard and Stittville Fire Departments.

The groups will practice working in and around the military aircraft. They'll learn how to extract patients from the ground and lift people out of hard to get to areas, like ravines.

Officials say bringing different agencies together will benefit them all in many ways.

"My soldiers need to learn how to talk to, operate, and work with and through the civilian governments in whatever country we get assigned to. For the folks here in Marcy, for the local emergency responders, they could very well be using these same National Guard aircraft if there is any type of emergency where the guard was called in," said Commander John Wilt with the 401st Civil Affairs Battalion out of Webster.

The training is scheduled to last five days.
