STATEWIDE -- The state education department releases Math and English Language Arts test scores from students in grades three through eight.
The tests were administered in April. The report shows a slight increase in both subjects.
The report shows 55.1 percent of students statewide met or exceeded the English Language Arts proficiency standard. That's up from 52.8 percent last year.
When it comes to Math, 64.8 percent of students either met or exceeded the standard. That number is up from 63.3 percent last year.
Commissioner John King said while the numbers show some positivity, it's not enough. King said not enough students are improving as much as they should be. He said he hopes reforms that will be implemented in the upcoming school year will result in better scores and better prepare students for college and careers.
