CAMILLUS, N.Y. -- A brand new triathlon was held in Camillus this weekend, but it was more than just a competition. More than 300 women took part in the first ever Gillie Girl's Sprint Triathlon at Gillie Lake in Veterans Memorial Park on Sunday.

It consisted of an 800 meter swim, 14 mile bike ride, and 5K run. 100 percent of the net proceeds will go to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. Organizer Eric Prager said he was inspired to start the event by his mother, who battled breast cancer for 16 years. He said while some of the competitors are there to race, others have different reasons for taking part.

"There's other people that are out here racing because they lost a family member to cancer. There's some people that have been battling cancer for a long time, and there's some people that are just touched by the cause," said Prager.

After the race, participants were able to enjoy music and a barbecue, with activities for kids.
