HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The fugitive soldier who led police on a manhunt last September has accepted a plea deal.

Russell Marcum, 20, was scheduled to go on trial Monday before he accepted a deal that will put him in prison for ten years.

In September 2011, Marcum eluded police on a two day chase through multiple counties. While on the chase, he broke into two homes in West Winfield, stealing a loaded gun from one and a cell phone and car from the other.

An officer was able to convince Marcum to surrender peacefully and he was taken into custody in the Town of Dryden.

In the days prior to the manhunt, Marcum was arrested for several burglaries in the Watertown area.
