Girl Scouts across the country are celebrating their 100th anniversary this year with camps, events, and activities. This weekend, about 1,500 local scouts and adults will celebrate with a jamboree at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds. Our Brad Vivacqua visited a camp to find out what some of the girls are learning this summer.

CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. – It’s a busy and exciting time for girl scouts everywhere. Locally, the Girl Scouts of New York Penn Pathways region includes 26 counties in New York and Pennsylvania.

There are a number of camps throughout the summer. At Camp Yaiewano on Owasco Lake, girls ranging from six to sixteen have been participating in activities including swimming, kayaking, and canoeing for the past three weeks. The girls are also participating in arts and crafts and working with counselors to decide what activities they'd like to participate in.

This weekend about 1,500 scouts and adults will participate in a jamboree to celebrate the 100th anniversary. As a member of the scouts, girls are learning leadership skills and building friendships.

"When I first started coming to camp, I didn't have any leadership at all. And, then I learned everything when I started coming here," said Molly Sumner, a Girl Scout from Forestport.

"I've been having lots of fun lately because, one of the things, I love the dinners, and the lunches, and breakfast. Then, I also love what activities we do," said Alyssa Brynn Wheeler, a Girl Scout from Homer.
