BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- A family in the Town of Union elevated their flood prevention plans.
Construction was underway at the home of Town of Union resident Gary Morse Tuesday afternoon. Contractors were busy raising the Poplar Street home ten feet from its existing foundation.
The house is one of many severely flooded in both 2006 and 2011.
Morse says he doesn't want to risk the possibility of experiencing flood damage again in the future.
"I don't like to wait around, I like to get things done. Everyone is like ‘Gary, you are so far ahead of the curve,’ but I have to be ahead of the curve because we could get another major flood any day," Morse said.
Morse bought the home in 2005. He says he is hoping construction will be finished within four to five weeks.
