SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A man is in the hospital after he was hit by a car in Syracuse.

Police say a 28-year-old man was hit in the intersection of South Salina Street and McAllister Avenue just before 9 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim was taken to Upstate University Hospital with a head injury. There's no word on his current condition.

Investigators are now working to figure out exactly what happened.

"Based on the information we have, it's obvious the pedestrian was in the road. We're unsure if he was crossing the street at this point time or standing in the road, that would come out as part of the investigation," Syracuse Police Sergeant Gary Bulinski.

Police say the driver of the car involved stopped immediately after the accident.
