FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- The man who led the day-to-day operations of Fort Drum for the past two years has said goodbye to the North Country.
Garrison Commander Colonel Noel Nicolle was honored Friday morning on post. During the ceremony, he handed control over to Colonel Gary Rosenberg.
Nicolle, who's credited with helping Drum combat a serious housing shortage during his time, is headed to South Korea for his new assignment. He says he was honored to serve in the North Country.
"I'm convinced the reason Fort Drum has fared so well over the last two years is not only because of our incredible work force, but also because of our tremendous civilian community and the closeness we enjoy," Nicolle said.
Colonel Rosenberg spent the last year serving in Iraq. While he was there, his family moved to the North Country, getting a bit of a head start.
